Deal of the Day
Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare AK-74U

History

The AKS-74U is a compact assault rifle with a folding stock and a shortened barrel that was produced in the Soviet Union from the 1980s to 1991 and in modern Russia today. It was designed to be used by pilots, tank crews and other echelons of the Soviet Army where a full-sized rifle was impractical for defense, but the power of a full-sized rifle round was required. The AKS-74U is chambered in 5.45x39mm, the same as the AK-74 from which it is derived. The AKS-74U is still used in Russia by front line troops, but export models such as the AK-102, AK-104, and AK-105 have been seen in the hands of Russian troops (although it is likely that these are just field tests). The AKS-74u is still used by other former Eastern Bloc countries, former Soviet Union-affiliated states, and sometimes by insurgent groups. The most infamous example of the later is Osama bin Laden, as one is frequently seen with or around him in his video addresses. Nicknames for the AKS-74U include Krinkov in English speaking countries and Ksyusha in Russian-speaking countries. The currently produced modern Russian version is notably short, at just 700 mm (27 in) in length when the stock is folded. The AK-74U in game isn't actually an AK-74u. In fact, it is an M92 Krinkov shown by the under-folding stock. An AK-74U has a side folding triangular stock.

Singleplayer

It is first found on the level Crew Expendable and seen semi-commonly throughout the game being used by the Russian Loyalists, Ultranationalists, the Middle-Eastern OpFor, and Nikolai once he is rescued in Blackout and during the subsequent level, Hunted.

The AK74u is generally slightly worse than the MP5. The only advantage the AK74u has is a slightly faster reload time and better bullet penetration. The difference between the weapons is small however. People that prefer a more vertically aligned recoil pattern should stick with the AK74u as opposed to the MP5.

It is known to be the most powerful Sub-Machine gun, but it suffers from upward recoil, much like it's assault rifle counterpart, the AK-47.
