| Black Ops AK-74U |
HistoryThe AKS-74U is a compact assault rifle with a folding stock and a shortened barrel that was produced in the Soviet Union from the 1980s to 1991 and in modern Russia today. It was designed to be used by pilots, tank crews and other echelons of the Soviet Army where a full-sized rifle was impractical for defense, but the power of a full-sized rifle round was required. The AKS-74U is chambered in 5.45x39mm, the same as the AK-74 from which it is derived. The AKS-74U is still used in Russia by front line troops, but export models such as the AK-102, AK-104, and AK-105 have been seen in the hands of Russian troops (although it is likely that these are just field tests). The AKS-74u is still used by other former Eastern Bloc countries, former Soviet Union-affiliated states, and sometimes by insurgent groups. The most infamous example of the later is Osama bin Laden, as one is frequently seen with or around him in his video addresses. Nicknames for the AKS-74U include Krinkov in English speaking countries and Ksyusha in Russian-speaking countries. The currently produced modern Russian version is notably short, at just 700 mm (27 in) in length when the stock is folded. The AK-74U in game isn't actually an AK-74u. In fact, it is an M92 Krinkov shown by the under-folding stock. An AK-74U has a side folding triangular stock. Singleplayer/Co-OpThe AK74u appears in the levels "Crash Site", "Rebirth" and "Redemption." It is used commonly by Viet Cong and Spetsnaz forces. The AK74u is available off the wall for 1200 points. It has low recoil, a moderate rate of fire, a 20 round magazine with 160 reserve rounds and low damage. MultiplayerDamage 40-20 (MP) The AK74u is made available for purchase upon reaching level 17, and costs 2000. It has the second most amount of damage for a submachine gun, tied with the MP5k, and losing only to the Skorpion at close ranges. It has a predictable upwards recoil pattern which is relatively easy to control. It performs exceptionally well at close to mid ranges, though its recoil and damage drop-off make it harder to use at long distances. The Grip attachment mitigates this problem by greatly reducing recoil, which helps to ensure more shots stay on target. The AK74u has a slower rate of fire compared to most submachine guns, however this can help with conservation of ammunition, if you are accurate with your shots. But this too can be mitigated with the Rapid Fire attachment. The AK74u is the only submachine gun for which the Grenade Launcher attachment is available. It is also one of only two submachine guns which accept the Dual Mag attachment (the other one being the MPL). Many of its traits make it play like an assault rifle with submachine gun ADS and movement speed, making it one of the most popular weapons in multiplayer. The reload time, iron sights , and assault rifle-like traits of this weapon make it one of the best options for new and experienced players alike. Unlike assault rifles, it is important to note the AK74u has lower bullet penetration. It is unable to penetrate through medium and high surfaces such as building structures and concrete slabs, although it is reasonable when shooting through light material. This problem can be remedied by using the Hardened perk.
